10 Best Custom ROMs for Android Phones in 2022

Custom ROMs are nothing but the stock firmware or operating system that runs on your android smartphones, these are developed by third party developers with some added features to give you a better experience than just regular android phones.

Most of the manufacturers release the source code which can be read and modified by anyone with some knowledge of programming and coding languages.

There are a few popular custom ROMs which have been around for a long time and have been maintained by developers, these include the Cyanogen Mod, that offers a wide range of devices supported, also there’s MIUI that was originally designed for Xiaomi smartphones but is now available on many other big brands, other good ones are Omni ROM, Paranoid Android etc.

Best Custom ROMs for Android Phones

1.Pixel Experience:

Pixel Experience is a custom ROM which offers stock UI and Pixel phones to the core. The download link for this ROM can be found on official website as well as XDA developers. This ROM is great as it does not feature any bloatware or unnecessary apps however we suggest you to read the installation instructions before flashing this ROM on your phone.

2.CyanogenMod:

Custom Rom for Android: CyanogenMod:

One of the best-developed custom OSs, CyanogenMod is often recommended as an ideal starting point for those who want their OS modded; however, it has got significant performance issues with newer smartphones like Snapdragon 810 & Exynos 7420 processors. It was recently merged with Lineage OS.

3.MIUI:

Custom Rom for Android: MIUI ROM Availability:

Offers various features like themes, wallpapers, fonts etc., but is not much customizable as compared to other custom ROMs. It has got good support for devices running on Snapdragon processor only. The download link for this ROM can be found on official website as well as XDA developers (We’d recommend the Stable version).

Another downside of this ROM is it comes pre-installed with lots of applications including games which are not so useful and can be uninstalled if you want to free up extra space in your phone memory. This ROM also provides bloatware updates which often go unnoticed because users don’t realize their device’s software is now out of date.

4.OmniROM:

Custom Rom for Android: Omni ROM Availability: This ROM is still under development and has limited support for devices now, though it is expected to cover all the major brands soon. It comes with great features like Gestures, Pie etc., and gives a custom look with its own icons and wallpapers, however most of these features can be found in popular custom rom – CyanogenMod as well. Due to lack of proper documentation and update time lag it’s hard to recommend this ROM that at present does not provide good performance for Snapdragon processors only.

5.Paranoid Android:

Custom Rom for Android: Paranoid Android Availability:  This one another popular ROM, and has good support for devices running on Snapdragon processors only. It is based on CyanogenMod with some added features; however, it does not feature nightly builds like CM. Due to lack of proper documentation and update time lag it’s hard to recommend this ROM at present as well.

6.AOKP:

Custom Rom for Android: AOKP ROM Availability: This one another popular ROM, and has good support for devices running on Snapdragon processors only. It comes with lots of customization options which include custom kernels, modules etc., but lacks documentation which makes it difficult to install the same on many different Samsung Devices (like Galaxy S3, S4). Also due to lack of update time it’s difficult to recommend this ROM as well.

7.Cherry Mobile Alpha:

Custom Rom for Android: Cherry Mobile ROM Availability: This is totally a local custom ROM and has limited support for devices now, though it is expected to cover all the major brands soon. The best part about this custom OS is its clean UI and good performance, however due to lack of proper documentation and update time lag it’s difficult recommend this ROM as well.

8.Mokee Open Source Project (MOS):

Custom Rom for Android: Mokee ROM Availability:  It is based on CyanogenMod with some added features; however, due to lack of proper documentation and update time lag it’s hard to recommend this ROM at present as well (too many bugs).

9. Parrot OS Custom Rom for Android:

Parrot OS Availability: It is a very new ROM and has limited support for devices now, but is expected to cover all the major brands soon. The best part about this custom ROM is its clean UI and easy-to-use interface including gestures as well as navigation bar, however due to lack of proper documentation and update time lag it’s difficult recommend this ROM as well (too many bugs).

10.Android Open Kang Project (AOKP)

This one another popular custom ROM with lots of customization options which include custom kernels, modules etc., and an equally good amount of customization features which includes status bar mods, notification drawer mods, navigation bar mods etc., however due to lack of proper documentation and update time lag it’s hard to recommend this ROM at present as well.

This is too much popular rom because of its customization capabilities, but we will never like the way they promote their roms.

It has good support for devices running on Snapdragon processors only; however, it comes pre-installed with lots of applications including games which are not so useful and can be uninstalled if you want to free up extra space in your phone memory (too many bugs).

Conclusion:

According to our experience you should go with CynogenMod or Paranoid android custom rom. But we already write an article about this topic (“Cyanogenmod 11 for samsung galaxy S3 mini”) so, you can read it too.
